administrator logon

Using Windows XP Pro. Would like to logon on as administrator in normal
mode, not safe mode. Cntrl+alt+del at the welcome screen does not work for
me. The task manager window comes up and I logon to another user account.
Can someone tell me how to do this or why cntrl+alt+del does not work?

Are you saying that the instructions below do not work?

At the Welcome Screen, do/press the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys twice to display the
Windows logon box.
Type in "Administrator" (without the quotes) and 'if' you assigned a
password when you set up Windows, then enter it. (Note: by default the
password is blank, no password need be entered)

You need to hit the Ctrl + Alt + Del key combination twice at the Welcome screen
in order to display the Logon to Windows dialog. From there you can enter
Administrator in the User Name box and the appropriate password.

An alternative approach is to disable the Welcome screen. Go to Control Panel ->
User Account -> Change the way users log on or off -> Uncheck Use the Welcome
screen -> Apply Options. Once the Welcome screen is disabled, you can go to the
Start menu and select Log Off to change from your regular user account to the
Administrator account.

Good luck

Not in Pro AFAIK, which the OP says he has. It's in Home that the Admin
password is blank unless changed...

JS, that is correct, those instructions are not working. The windows logon
box is not displayed after I hit cntrl+alt+del twice at the welcome screen.
Thanks for replying.

I thought the welcome screen was the blue screen with one word "welcome" that
appears during startup. That is when I have been trying cntrl+alt+del. In
reviewing some other material I see that the welcome screen is the screen
that displays the accounts available. Perhaps I have disabled that screen as
it doesn't appear at start up.

Following up on my previous reply, you can add the Administrator account to the
Welcome screen through any of the procedures outlined on these web sites.

Note: If you have you computer configured to automatically log on your regular
account at startup you can hold down the Shift key during startup to override
the automatic logon and display the Welcome screen.

Good luck
