Hey whassup cquirke? Not sure if you seen my post addressed to you but
I'll repeat here:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Subject: ATTN: cquirke (Resolved Issue)

Not sure if you remember but a bit back you had helped me with an issue
of mine with tranfering files across a network that were
corrupting.....As promised I said you'd be the first to know if I ever
found the solution.........
Turns out it was an obvious one but last to check of course(after
extensive tests of routers, 8 port workstation, cables, tips, blah
blah)......The onboard NIC card on the HP a720n was crapped....Don't
know what's wrong & have not contacted HP yet but in the mean time I
replaced it with a PCI NIC card and all is perfect again. Wonder what HP
will do as it's an onboard NIC.....Onboards I'm not to happy with as I'd
rather have something simplistic to change if anything goes
wrong.....But the puter was real cheap so can't complain.

I just wanted to thank you for your help & the education on the VIA
chipset issues, it was excellent info and will help me on the purchase
of a new board in the future.........

Again, thank you............

....cuz then you stop checking, right? :)

This is interesting, and surprised me - I've very seldom (read: never)
seen subtle data-corrupting problems with LAN cards, including LAN
support integrated into the motherboard.

But it makes sense, given that the LAN card machine-guns data into RAM
via DMA, after first buffering it on the card or whatever.

In another thread (in a Win9x group) there's a system that eats
registry and barfs data unless the LAN card is set to "disable in this
profile"; problems that arose after an ad-hoc "Win98 SP2" (collection
of fixes, toys, tweaks and add-ons) was added.

Oh good.........

Of course, it was the last thing I checked as I was to lazy to open the
case & used a slow ass USB NIC, got impatient transfering a huge file.

As I said, I don't know "exactly" what's wrong with it but considering a
PCI works perfect has to be something wrong. 4 seperate OS's did the
same thing so I'd have to assume hardware.....

Ouch, that sounds interesting..........
