I wouldn't touch a Partition Magic version that was touched by Symantec
even if I was paid to.

Symantec sucks, and those that use Symantec products are just suckers.

So, what would you recommend the user purchase/use?

Anything but Symantec, LameGirl. ;-)

If the OP will like to ask me directly, I will answer, but I will not
answer some Symantec sucking shill like you. All you deserve is my
disrespect, which you have earned time and time again.

Googling for partition recovery software gives this:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=partition+recovery+software&btnG=Search

You could also ask Symantec tech support. Good luck with that.

$35 bucks will get you a Symantec phone tech find a way to blame you,
your computer hardware, and or other software you have installed on your
computer!

Luck?! The OP would need a miracle to get real support help from
Symancrap!

I would be safe to say that short of a miracle or expensive data
recovery I'd say you are at a loss........I have used PMagic for years &
have NEVER NEVER used the "merge" function.....Just call it a
paranoia....Simply put, good old fashion copy & paste of the data to
another drive, delete the partition & than "resize/move" to fill the
unallocated area...In your case would have been the 7gig.....I have yet
though chose to use the 8.05 Symantec version. Not saying it's bad or
anything but call it another paranoia about Symantec.......

I have used PowerQuest's versions of Partition Magic to merge
successfully but only on hardrives that were partitioned & formatted by
PM to begin with.

Everything that Symantec touches seems to go to sh*t pretty quickly, and
I won't ever be buying any future versions of PM made by Symantec.

This would make lots of sense, I have thought the same logic but found
it far easier for me to just delete & resize when I needed to expand a
disk........22 harddrives is a lot of data for me to manage and don't
like trying anything else....Old dog new tricks sorta deal ya
know.......I'm sure it does work fine in more experienced hands....Not
saying the OP was not, just I woulda did a little research on its
success.........

I agree Kurt, which is why I stick to 8.02.....Wasn't second guessing
your assessment just didn't wanna seem like I was debating it.........

When using *ANY* application to change disk parameters, you should
*ALWAYS*back up your data first. Live and learn. PM8.5 is no worse than any
of the other products of the same type...you should have backed up prior to
making any changes.

your question

When someone slams a product and doesn't offer a better solution they
are not providing any assistance. Kurt told you that you should not be
using a Symantec Product, but he didn't tell you what you should use to
replace it - his same old line.

LOL! Again, if asked by someone not up Symantec's ass, I have no
problem giving my advise about other companies problems. I have yet to
be asked by a reasonable human being.

Kurt, I'm very reasonable, but I don't flame people for their choices, I
don't make statements about a solution being bad and then not offer a
viable solution in place of it, I don't act rude and assanine in every
post (or most every post), I don't offer solutions that I don't use
myself unless stating that.

It would seem to any reasonable person that you are most unreasonable
most of the time.

Dude, you have proven time and time again that you are not worthy of
being treated with respect.

Between YOU, SYM, and MS, you are the most deserving of being
disrespected in my book.

If the OP solitics an opinion about what to use instead of Sym PM, I'll
be happy to join the bandwagon of those that have given their opinions
already. But the OP doesn't seem to want the alternate program
suggestions that YOU solicticed, and is still hoping against hope to
recover his data, instead of cutting his loses due to Symantec, and
moving on to another partitioning solution.

Maybe you should read the OP, instead on my posts. You are too
interested in playing with me. You seem to be like a little girl
stalking the little boy she secretly loves!

As I said, I personally think you are at a loss without expensive data
recovery....I was merely making a suggestion as to how you can maybe do
it differently in the future, my bad, I thought that was the impression
I gave........
Someone suggested BootItNG, I have no clue how it works or the premise
as the individual did not suggest how to use it.........
There are no guarantees in data recovery, I have never experienced data
loss personally but have seen very strange things happen, as Kurt
suggested, when manipulating partitions with 3rd party software that was
not originally partitioned by it.

Yup. At face value, the answer I'd give is "use BING instead".

But the truth is, I would NEVER attempt manipulation (file system
conversion, resixing, moving) existing partitions unless I'd created
known-good image backups of all affected partitions first.
