Sending in the Army would be seen as an act of violence against the people and an admittance by the authorities that they have lost control, not that there seems to be any control anyway.

If one were to 'send in the Army' may I strongly suggest they shoot to kill, no need to overload the prison service. :)

Water cannons? issue the police with tasers, big ones.

I've been glued to the radio and the TV for the last few days.

It is hard to stomach the fact that scum like this exists in the same society as us.

Cameron's 'speech' was a joke, the man is an absolute cretin of the highest order. He considered his holiday to be more important than the tens of millions of pounds worth of damage being done to the capital by its own people. To be more important than people's homes being destroyed for absolutely no reason, businesses and livelihoods being destroyed at a whim.I am certain they will become murderers in the next few days as charred bodies are recovered.

I swear to god if the police went in tomorrow and shot them all dead I would be happy. These people are scum of a level I don't think I can comprehend. The do not deserve to be in a civilised society.

It is very poignant that the only shop not damaged or looted in Enfield was Waterstones.

I have been on state benefit since I was 8 years old. My father ran off, hired a bent accountant and stole all of our money and I haven't seen him since. I've never been on a family holiday and my family cannot afford a car. When these self-proclaimed 'victims' come on the TV and have the nerve to blame this on poverty, it makes my blood boil.

I bet 99% of those bastards have a car in the their family. I bet they all have bloody blackberries on £25/month contracts. I bet they have more ****ing money than my family has ever had.

Its about damn time there was a sea change in this country. Everybody has a choice. At the very least, these people will have had the exact same level of income my family has had. I chose not to become a scumbag. I worked harked, led a normal life, got a degree from a decent university and am looking for a job. There are lots of jobs around. They might not be very good jobs, but they are jobs. We all attend the same school system. We all have an equal chance of achieving academically in school. Inequality is rife, but the school system is pretty equal. It is up to the individual to take advantage of it, not take the easy route of not doing any work and then complaining about it afterwards.

These lazy, self-pitying, self-victimising scumbags who are doing this and trying to defend it as some sort of sociological reaction can go to hell. It is mindless. Anyone arrested under the age of 18 should have their parents arrested and locked away too.

If you choose to loot, to set historic buildings on fire, to destroy homes, lives, cars, businesses - things people have worked their whole lives to buy - you deserve to be hung. The lack of morals and understanding of value is frightening. I could have easily chosen to be a mindless thug, it would have been very easy. Instead you work hard and you pull yourself up.

Where is the pride? Where is the simple line of good and evil?

Nothing is too strong for people like this. They will never be anything useful in society. Rubber bullets would be the least of their worries if I was in power. It is insanity.

Some observations... a 22 year old female friend of my daughter runs a pub in Lee High Road, Lewisham, it's a musical venue and amongst it's small claims to fame is that Kate Bush started out there. Last night it was attacked by a mob of black youngsters who confronted her. Fortunately for her the upper floor serves as a half way house and a group of big burly ex-jailbirds stood up to them and whisked her away upstairs where she hid in her apartment. As the mob was so big the jailbirds also locked themselves in their rooms.

The mob completely trashed the pub and stole all the alcohol then atempted to break into the lady manager's apartment. She barricaded the door, shouted out there was nothing valuable and they left. As they left one youth jumped out through a window and a shard of glass gashed his leg. He left a trail of blood. An ambulance crew tried to help him, the mob beat up the paramedics, tipped the ambulance over and set fire to it. The injured youth then stole a car and drove off.

At the pub where my daughter worked the chef left early to cycle home to his wife and children in mearby New Cross, where rioting was going on. As he cycled past a group of youths trying to set light to a car they tried to attack him but he managed to outpedal them. The chef is a white guy, btw.

The area manager phoned my daughters' pub and advised staff to stay at anybody's place who lived close to the pub so my daughter and one barman stayed at another barmaid's house.

When my daughter returned to the pub this morning the head waitress, an attractive 25 year old Jamaican girl was very angry. She said she was ashamed to be black and was now an honourary white person until further notice.

Rumours abounded that people were being mugged, raped and forced to strip on the streets so just in case I walked to the bus stop to escort my daughter home at lunchtime today, she's not working til tomorrow now. These are probably groundless rumours btw, started by fear-mongers

Wetherspoons the pub was burned down in Woolwich, that place sold cheap beer and was full of methers 9am - midnight every day; the two poshest shops in Blackheath village were looted; the local BP filling station was also looted, in Greenwich (this is possibly rough justice as those people gave me two euros in my change once, the bastids - only joking).

Theresa May needs a slap, she won't aprove of the deployment of water cannons - why not? Didn't hesitate to use them against the Irish did you? David Cameron spouted a load of hot air and said nothing.

Tonight there will be 16,000 police on duty all night in London compared to the 6000 on duty last night. At nearly all of the places where theft was being carried out last night there was no police presence. Ironic that this Goverment which imo is partly to blame for the current situation should also want to cut the police force numbers which could, given enough man power, quell the situation.

This is no longer protest it's just plain criminality and thuggery.

Were I holding the reins I'd declare a hostile force was invading our country and deploy armed troops with live ammunition to sort the situation out once and for all. The loss of all of those carrying out criminal acts would be no loss at all to the UK.

This whole riot problem has got to be stopped - and quickly. Failure to do so will lead to yobs all over the country thinking they have free rein to start looting and burning.

I have spoken to lots of people about it and ALL are, quite rightly, very concerned, even frightened, by what's going on. I'm certain that the public will back ANY measures taken to get this sorted out.

And that includes the use of weapons according to quite a number of the public. This cannot be allowed to continue. This is supposed to be a civilised country.

My fear is the public are going totake this into their own hands, which will just escolate the problem even more in my opinion.

The pub my daughter works in closed at 6pm. At 8pm she was called by police (she's acting manager as manager on holiday) as pub had been broken into and burglar alarm was going off. Nothing nicked as staff hid the spirits (no optics) and put money in safe. Daughter got lift there and back from barman.

Seems to be quieter tonight, no smoke on horizon, less sirens, more helicopters about.

Local general store closed all day with steel shutters down.

It strikes me from hearing stories that there is a helluva lot of lawlessness going unreported.

Daily Mail in their usual style published lies with story about people being raped, stripped, mugged and robbed on the streets with a supposed real photograph of a guy being stripped. I wish the rioters/looters/criminals would go and trash the Daily Mail offices and do us all a favour.

It ocurs to me that British National Party membership will show a sharp increase in the next few weeks which is predictable but still a bit sad.

There are two young girls in Croydon that need a full frontal lobotomy or concrete boots and a dip in the Thames.

Now 22:32 hours and siren activity picking up a bit. Looters obviously not totally stoopid, they realise huge police presence tonight and are laying low. This goverment and police force are so sharp, we had three nights of violence and criminal activity before they realised it might be prudent to up police presence in London. Too late lads, too late. I'd personally let all of Woolwich barracks loose with weapons, that might be fun.

Some areas conspicuously quiet, like Sevenoaks, Dorking and Leatherhead. Numbskull looters so stoopid they only crap in their own back yard.

Mate of mine moved to Portugal three years ago and keeps putting down the UK as washed up. I argue with him, saying I love England. The last few days have made me think he may be right.

Sad, sad days.

Manchester seems mad at the moment, it's all kicking off just a couple of hundred meters away from where we live - never seen anything like this. :(

Feel bad for the police as they are trying their best, but not enough of them and they are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Just can't get my head round why people would do this to their own city. All the shops shut here in the afternoon, even out of town supermarkets.

That's because they don't see it as their city. It's just a city.

There is no sense of loyalty, responsibility or community. These people are just out for themselves.

Time has come for really strong measures and to hell with human rights for these scum. The general public's human rights have far more weight.

Yup, I have seen that as well, but Facebook seem to be on the ball and are taking the pages down as quick as they are going up.
Also seems in Enfield people are taking things into their own hands to sort the rioters/looters out.

I am a proud Englishman but today I hide my head in shame and extremely angry to think my country has become so low. The problem is rely this we have adhered to the the Human Rights Act for so long that the younger generation of a certain level of society know their rights (or think they do) they forget that others have rights . They have not been taught that their actions will have repercussions on them because society have been allowing them the freedoms they do not deserve what ever their ethnicity, religion, indigence or colour. Authority and society has been frightened to administer discipline in schools and in society in general not teaching young people that any action will have repercussions on them. In a riot situation situation like we are seeing at the moment is I am afraid is cold steel and a 7.622 round. Prison is not an option we haven't got enough prisons and going soft with patting them on the head and telling them they have been naughty boys and girls is not sufficient to satisfy the law abiding citizens of this once great country. The politicians have got to grow some balls and and and repeal certain laws and remake laws so that punishment fits the crime.

Imho, over the past couple of evenings, whilst police commanders have been debating and indulging in a lot of navel contemplation, about politically correct methods of policing, the inmates took-over the asylum and caused chaos. Allowing the ground-troops to get on with their jobs, by providing them with whatever they needed to effectively keep a lid on things, would have been much more helpful. But instead, the rioters found themselves meeting very little opposition. The rioters "weapons of choice" were pretty much anything which could be hurled from a distance. The police had batons, which can only be deployed at close quarters.

The deputy assistant commissioner has been quoted as saying: "The face of policing has changed, 25-30 years ago it would have been a different response, we'd have gone to baton rounds and water cannon straight away. Now we are more measured."

He went on: "We had people as young as 11 being arrested for looting last night. Do we genuinely want to see the police of London using that type of tactic on 11-year-olds? We have to be very careful about what we use and how we're using it."

Hmm... that statement doesn't quite tally with what PM Cameron had to say earlier, does it? Remember the part of his speech in which he said: "And I have this very clear message to those people who are responsible for this wrongdoing and criminality: you will feel the full force of the law and if you are old enough to commit the crime, you are old enough to face the punishment."

Returning to the deputy assistant commissioner, he also said: "The priority is not to protect property but to protect life."

Oh really? I think he has made a slight boo-boo there, because according to the Met Police Federation, Office of Constable pamphlet called "What it means to hold the Office of Constable" - it states: "With the office of Constable comes personal accountability and responsibility for the protection of life and property, the prevention and detection of crime, the maintenance of law and order and the detection and prosecution of offenders." (.pdf here: http://www.metfed.org.uk/support/uploads/1214552596Office Constable.pdf if anyone is interested.)

I happened to read that for the past 10 years, "weapons" have been issued to police who are manning the Notting Hill Carnival - "It is there, if there is a riot and conventional tactics can't contain the violence." Yet over the past few days there has been rioting and looting on an unprecidented scale and, which has been allowed to escalate, whilst police personnel - in some instances - were forced to stand around like spare parts!

You have to wonder.........!

Btw, some of the quotes above, came from an article here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/aug/09/london-riots-police-debate-tactics

Been a bit busy so only managed to catch up today.

Stay safe PCR members and if you have to venture outside wear a pan or large colander on your head, strap tea trays around your body as armour and carry a cricket bat. :fool:

Looks like trouble has spread to other parts of the UK.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-14472885

In Nottingham, five police stations across the city and one in Canning Circus station was fire bombed by a mob of about 40 men.

One man was arrested and a vehicle recovered after three men were killed when they were hit by a car in Winson Green, Birmingham.
It is believed the men aged 31, 30 and 20 had just come out of a mosque and were protecting their neighbourhood at the time of the incident.

When the BBC asked two youths why they were rioting, one responded: "Why are you going to miss the opportunity to get free stuff that's worth, like, loads of money?"

Greater Manchester's assistant chief constable Garry Shewan said. "This has been senseless violence and senseless criminality of a scale I have never experienced in my career before.

Sony's main optical disk warehouse for the UK went up in flames last night as riots spread across London.

Three men have been run over and killed as they protected property in a second night of violence in Birmingham.

Police have arrested a 32-year-old who is being questioned on suspicion of murder following the deaths.

BlackBerry hacked as UK riots rage on

http://www.tgdaily.com/business-and...d:+tgdaily_all_sections+(TG+Daily+-+All+News)

"We feel for those impacted by the riots in London," RIM managing director Patrick Spence told The Guardian.
"We have engaged with the authorities to assist in any way we can."

Unsurprisingly, after announcing its cooperation with British authorities, RIM's Inside BlackBerry blog was defaced by hackers who left the following statement:
Dear RIM, You Will _NOT_ assist the UK Police because if u do innocent members of the public who were at the wrong place at the wrong time and owned a blackberry will get charged for no reason at all, the Police are looking to arrest as many people as possible to save themselves from embarrassment…. if you do assist the police by giving them chat logs, gps locations, customer information & access to peoples BlackBerryMessengers you will regret it, we have access to your database which includes your employees information; e.g – Addresses, Names, Phone Numbers etc. – now if u assist the police, we _WILL_ make this information public and pass it onto rioters…. do you really want a bunch of angry youths on your employees doorsteps? Think about it…. and don’t think that the police will protect your employees, the police can’t protect themselves let alone protect others….. if you make the wrong choice your database will be made public, save yourself the embarrassment and make the right choice. don’t be a puppet..
p.s – we do not condone in innocent people being attacked in these riots nor do we condone in small businesses being looted, but we are all for the rioters that are engaging in attacks on the police and government…. and before anyone says “the blackberry employees are innocent” no they are not! They are the ones that would be assisting the police - TriCk – TeaMp0isoN -

TeaMp0isoN_ I'm sure the authorities will soon give you the opportunity to spend 23 hours a day for hopefully several years to compose such wonderful messages.

TV historian Dan Snow has told how he caught and sat on a looter who ran past him carrying armfuls of shoes.

Clear up begins in Clapham after riot

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14472567

More medals for these folk. Better still give then guns with bayonets to replace the brooms and I'm sure that the police would no longer be needed in quell the rioters in Clapham. ;)

I never thought that the I would agree with the Russians but they do seem to have some good suggestions.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-14456635

In the UK, the police need a consolidated political will despite its strength. The authorities should say that 'if you want to live in England, you should work and become Englishmen or go away'. Years will pass before the UK authorities venture to take tough measures in the immigration policy.

There are those who claim that the underlying reasons for the riots lie in the economic situation. they may be in part correct. We have over two and a half million unemployed and over one million immigrant workers not including all the illegals in the country, if the government had put more effort into getting unemployed brits back to work we would have one million less potential rioters.

As to how to control the rioters,

When an incident occurs. Send in the police with loud hailers, very loud hailers, tell the crowd they have 15 mins to disperse and leave the area. Advise all decent citizens to stay indoors with all windows shut.
At the end of 15 mins send in helicopters with cropsprayers attached loaded with a smart based colourless liquid and spray the crowd. The liquid would be similar to that used to mark property, be non toxic, last on clothing and skin for several weeks or months and be undetectable without a complex scanner.
Then send in the police or army to disperse and break up the riot.Forget the rubber bullets use rifles with bayonets.
Then in the following weeks do cleanup operations following leads provided by the public or through intelligence gathering. Scan everyone picked up and if they scan clean let them go if they scan dirty send them straight to jail for lets say a minimum of five years.
Would the above stop the riots ever happening again, I doubt it but they would be much smaller riots every time they occurred an I recon crime figures would drop quite dramatically in a very short time.

Main problem is that the police have been trained to deal with a riot that is a army of people fighting to break police lines and not a fluid battle ground as this has become. The police have charging the crowd who have run away and dilapidated down alleys. These criminals are after high value goods, bling causing arson and not after confrontation with the boys in blue unlike political riots and requires different tactics by cutting off escape routes first and then going in and charging in and making arrests. The other thing by rioting and looting in different locations makes it difficult for police to get enough manpower to the right places to carry this out. By police using baton rounds would discourage these vermin from doing their worst, but the police need to train for this type of disturbance as well as for the normal type riot that are used to.
