Logon screen asks for password

B

Bill Wittmer

I have Windows XP Pro installed with Eset's NOD32. Recently NOD32 warned me
of several trojan files belonging to trojan Vundo. These files ( vturq.dll,
ddccy.exe, dten600.dll, pmkjg.exe, awtuvus.dll) were all deleted. I did a
full scan again and the system was clean. However, when I rebooted, the
logon screen asks for a password. I had never set a password to logon. I
have two other accounts, one for my wife and one for my son. The logon
screen also asks for passwords to logon to these accounts as well. Not
knowing the password I was unable to logon. I had tried several randon
words to no avail. I went to safe mode and logged on as Administor and went
to "User Accounts" and removed all passwords. Rebooted and upon going to to
logon screen, I was asked for a password I did not know. I then went back
to the Administrator in Safe Mode and set the password to "123". I was then
able to logon to my user account. However, several hours later upon
rebooting, I was unable to logon in that the logon screen would not
recognize the "123" password. The other two accounts had been set for "123"
and I could not log onto these accounts as well. I have also run Ad-Aware
and CA's Anti-Spyware program with no hits other than "cookies". I am at a
loss, I can not remove the password from the user accounts and if I change
the password, the system reverts back to some unknown logon password. I
appreciate any help that can be offered.

Regards,
Bill

Please don't hijack onto someone else's post. Start your own.
Then give us as much detailed information about your system and what you did to get into your
problem.
For example: To answer how to change passwords, we need to know if your are running Windows XP home
edition or the Pro edition.
