logon password questions

When XP2 was initially setup, it was setup so I did not have to type a
password on boot. XP simply went to the desktop. Now I'm wondering how
to turn the password requirement back on!

Went to control panel, user accounts. Only two accounts, me & guest
(which is off). Noticed Welcome Screen and fast user switching is off
also (I recall setting them this way upon install). Didn't see any
switch to prompt for PW at boot so .... how does one turn on/off the
password requirement?

Thanks

When you open User Accounts in the CP, do you see the Pick a Task area? If
you do, click on Change an Account and follow the on screen prompts.

You have just turned on welcome screen, but you did not set a password to
your user account. You need to set a password after clicking on your user
account from the Control Panel.

If this doesnt works, you can do it the other way.
Start->Run->type "Control UserPasswords2"
Make sure you have a check box on "Users must enter a user name and password
to use this computer"
Click Apply, then restart.

Ron, did as you said and both boxes are grayed out!
An error message came up saying a recently installed program caused an error
then something about msGina.dll.

Looks like this will have to be researched.
Thanks

Mir, your suggestion worked. Thanks!
If you read the above posts then you'll know the Welcome screen and Fast
user switch boxes are grayed out. Not sure why. If you have any ideas how to
restore their functionality please let me know.

It depends. Generally it has to do with Netware/VPN....

If this is the case: Right click My Network Places and select Properties.
Right click the Internet connection in question, or LAN connection, and
select Properties. On the Networking tab, This connection uses...highlight
Client Services for Netware and select Uninstall.

Hope all goes well.
