When I turn on the PC I get to the screen where I have to type in user name and then password. I do that and nothing happens. It says something is wrong. I can typer in my sons name and password and pull up his screen. The password I have I have had for awhile. So typing it in right isn't the problem. Cases are correct. I have tried repairing with the 200 cd, I ahve tried to get last known good configuration. I was able to press F8 and got to that screen. Typed in the password and then confirmed. Now when I go in there it won't accewpt my password. I can't think of anything else to try. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Susan

Hi Susan,

If the error message you see indicates something along the lines of invalid
username or password, it thinks you've given the wrong password. What you
can do in this case is logon as a user who has administrative capability
(such as Administrator), then go to Computer Management (right-click on My
Computer and pick Manage - one way to get there). There, open 'Local Users
and Groups' under System Tools, then click on Users below that. On the
right you will see a list of users on the system. Right-click on the
account that you are having problems with and pick 'Set Password'. You
will be able to assign a password to the account using this approach which
you can then use the next time you logon.

This approach assumes your machine is not a member of a domain - a guess on
my part based on what you said. The technique would be different if you
have a domain in place.
