Chris

I'm using Win2000 at home and I'm a novice. I setup a
user account named "Chris' Computer" and all was fine. I
was going to use the MMC console, and setup up a new
console only partially filled out, and saved it. I then
turned off computer, and it now starts up under
Administrator and not 'Chris' Computer'. I deleted the
saved console as it wasn't what I needed anyway, but the
computer still starts up under Administrator. How can I
get it to open under 'Chris' Computer' again?? I've
searched high and low and can't find an answer! Any help
greatly appreciated.

Actually, I wasn't sure but figured out how to tell
now...I'm actually been using an account called "All
Users" and not "Chris' Computer" as the former has all the
programs I loaded on it. Sorry for the wrong info...so I
need to relogin under "All Users"..but how?

thanks again,
chris

This does not make sense. "All Users" is a common access "profile"
area available to all user accounts. Your logon account is the one
you use when in the W2K Logon Dialog Screen. Only if you setup
"auto-logon" would you not (perhaps) know what account you are
logging in with.

You will need to explain much more about your situation.

To keep this on-topic (cmdprompt.admin) open a CMD prompt ("MS-DOS
Prompt") and type in SET
the USERNAME= line will display the account you are logged on
with.

You can run regedit.exe and navigate to;
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
edit the Reg_Sz string values
"DefaultUserName"
and
"DefaultPassword"
to reflect the correct username and password.

Thanks You Dave for taking the time and effort to help me,
I really appreciate it!

I had to use regedit32.exe to work first, and there's 3
sentences there:
BuildNumber:Reg_Dword:
ExcludeProfileDirs:Reg_sz:localsettings;temp internet
files;history;temp;localsettings\applicationdata\microsoft\
outlook
ParseAutoexec:reg_sz:1

That's all there is. Do I add key? add value? or edit one
of these strings? And can you type the exact command?
Sorry I'm real unsure what I'm doing here and don't want
to mess it up like I normally would lol

Thanks again Dave!
Chris

Wrong key, you need to be at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Then take the sensible precaution of doing a full registry backup
beforehand.
RUN... ntbackup.exe
ERD
[check the box "Also backup the registry to..."]
Use a fresh formatted diskette.

The registry will be backed up to %systemroot%\repair\RegBack\ and if
catastrophe strikes there is a way to revert to this saved copy.
Details omitted for brevity. Be logged on with an Administrator
account.

Or Google for ERUNT as another option.

Dave, Thanks alot for answering and offering to help.

I had to run regedit32.exe in order for it to work

and 2. There's only these three things in that Winlogon
folder:
1 buildnumber:reg__dword
2 excludeprofiledirs:reg_sz:local settings;temporary
internet
files;history;temp;localsettings\applicationdata\microsoft\
outlook
and 3 parseautoexec:reg_sz:1

Do I have to add a new 'key' or 'value', or edit one of
those strings noted above?
Sorry, just not sure what Im doing and not sure what to do
to get "defaultusername" back in as you suggested.

Again, Thanks for the help!
Chris
