Logging on

Steve

I just need help in logging on with the remote, client,
computer. I am logging on though through a dial up
connection to a small network with a router on the other
end.
I need to enter / select 4 items:

1. Computer name: Is this the name of the computer on the
network or an IP address? If IP is it the computer's IP
or the router Gateway IP?
2. User Name: Where is this name entered?
3. Password: Again is this the router password or the
computer?
4. Domain: is this the DSL domain?

1. Can be either. If you have a router, it would be the router IP after you
set the proper port to pass through the router to a certain computer.

2. When you log into the computer - so it is an acceptable (one that has
been allowed to remote into the machine) account name on the remote machine.

3. When you log into the computer - so it is an acceptable (one that has
been allowed to remote into the machine) account password on the remote
machine.

4. This depends, is the machine (remote) in a domain? Do the domain
accounts in question have remote desktop rights? Do any local accounts. It
is - again - the machine.

Read up a bit:

The Remote Desktop Connection software is pre-installed with Windows XP. To
run it, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click
Communications, and then click Remote Desktop Connection. This software
package can also be found on the Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home
Edition product CDs and can be installed on any supported Windows platform.
To install from the CD, insert the disc into the target machine's CD-ROM
drive, select Perform Additional Tasks, and then click Install Remote
Desktop Connection.

*****Running Remote Desktop through a router*****

To run remote desktop thought a router at home you will need to enable port
forwarding, the process for this differs depending on the router.
