I have a couple of files (one .AVI, one .jpg), which I cannot delete (or move or anything else), as windows says it is in use by other programs

The operating system has been through multiple boots without releasing the files

How can I changed the 'status' of the file so that I can remove them from the system.

Alan,

I have a couple of files (one .AVI, one .jpg), which I cannot delete (or move or anything else), as windows says it is in use by other programs.

The operating system has been through multiple boots without releasing the files.

How can I changed the 'status' of the file so that I can remove them from the system.

If you have Nero, try to delete them using the Nero browser.

Otherwise, open a command prompt (Run > Start > cmd) change to the
folder where the file is, open task manager and end explorer.exe with
it.
in the command prompt tye del file_name.extension
Open a new task in task manager > Explorer.exe

Good luck

Thanks Roge

The removal of explorer.exe and del under Command Prompt worked great
