local printer won't print

I am trying to install a Canon BJC-4300ex printer on my computer running XP
home SP 2. The driver installs fine but I cannot print a test page, from any
applications or from a command prompt. I do not receive any error messages,
but the computer doesn't send any data to the printer (usually the light on
the printer blinks when it is receiving a job, but not since I installed it
on this computer). I have tried installing the driver with both plug & play
and with the driver from Canon's website. I have tried using a second
printer cable to the parallel port and a parallel to USB cable instead. I
have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the parallel port and stopping and
restarting the print spooler service. All with the dame results. The
printer works fine on a computer using Windows 2000.
I have also tried installing an Epson Stylus C82 on this computer since
having this problem. I am again able to install the drivers with no issues,
but it won't print either, this printer spits out a blank page when I try to
print from it. Even though the ink status window shows plenty of ink and I
can hear the ink in the cartridges when I shake them.
This computer is able to print to a network printer with no problems from
all applications, unfortunately I need a local printer for it too.
Please help me, I'm running out of ideas to try.

I uninstalled and reinstalled again following your directions. Still no
documents printing. the job still goes to the queue, but does not send to
the printer.
