Hello:

I'm posting on behalf of a friend using Win2K Pro.

When reading email in OE6 if he clicks on a link in the body of the email
nothing happens. Usually the default browser will launch and go to the site
the of the link.

Is there a setting that could be changed to fix this?

TIA!

Hi there

It sounds as if the association for URLs has become broken.

Fire up *Windows* Explorer and go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Now find the entry that's listed with the (NONE) extension and has
"URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol" under the File Types heading.

Click on the Advanced button. You should have an entry called "open", it
should be in bold (if not, make it the default using the "Set Default"
button. When you double-click "open", the application should be

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome

the "Use DDE" tick box should be ticked, application should read "iexplore"
and topic should read "System".

Hope this helps

Oli

Is this a problem with ALL types of e-mail? I had a similar problem
where in e-mails sent via TEXT, links worked fine. But if the e-mail
message had HTML, any link would not work. Also, it seemed as if java
script pop ups didn't work, and I had no spyware nor pop up blocker
installed. I created a Batch file with the following commands:

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

This will re-register the dlls shown. I assumed that multiple
security patches caused my Win 2k server to get corrupt somehow. If
you are unfamiliar with batch files, you can run each line from a the
Start -> Run menu. Or if you are familiar with Dos open up a command
window (from win2k) Start -> Run Type "cmd"

Then type each line.

Good luck!!!

Mike

This sounds more like the problem several of us at work are having since Service Pack 4 on Win2K. In our cases (multiple)
URL links are fine, but FILE links are broken. Links like
\\SomeComputer\ShareName\FolderNam
will cause the OS to briefly chug away, but then NADA
I tried re-registering the DLLs mentioned above, but no effect
Is there a special Registry moniker for this type of link?
