link activation in Outlook

hi, I have Outlook 2003

back in OE6, every time I clicked on a link
in an email, it would open no problem in my default browser.

now, not only do links not open (now it asks me to locate a browser in a
file explorer!?)

also the "copy shortcut" command in the context menu, which is very
helpful to copy URL's from emails, does not seem available in Outlook.

for a so-called full-featured email app, this all seems rather lame...?

how can I make links work the way they're meant to?
