I am still having ongoing issues w/my IE Explorer email crashing. I have
tried several of the suggestions on here and am still having the same issue.
It is my understanding that the very next thing I need to do is 100%
completely remove/uninstall IE from my PC but when I go to Start - Control
Panel - Add/Remove Prpgrams I do not see IE listed??? Someone said that I
need to then click on components, uncheck the box next to IE and then go thru
the prompts of next, next next, next, next, etc... etc... and it will be
uninstalled or removed but now I did that and tried to reinstall IE and I get
a prompt that "A Newer version of IE is already installed on the PC"??? I
think that was because someone gave me a link to Windows98 to install but
none-the-less.....if I had already removed and/or uninstalled W-XP IE from
the PC properly then how in the world could I even be getting a prompt like
that message??? How in the world do I remove IE from the system and how can I
confirm that it is completely removed from the system before running a virus
scan and trying to reinstall it again from the WindowsXP disc??? Also,
someone said I may have to completely remove WindowsXP Service pack from the
pc at the add/remove programs, is that so??? I am not good with these
things!! This is going on for 3 friggin months!! I just want WindowsXP, IE
and my email to work properly again. I am so confused. Please help, someone,
anyone, Pleeeeeeeeeease!! Thanks

You ARE confused.

Email is not part of IE.

Internet Explorer is an intergral part of the operating system and cannot be
"removed." It can be "disabled," it can be "hidden," but removed? Nope.
It's part of the warp and woof of XP.

Do a repair install on what you've got. Make sure you're up to SP2. Then
report back with the now-current symptoms.

Alternatively: Find a teen-age male to help you. Pay him with two hours of
high-speed porn.

I think HeyBub is kidding about the teenage boy. If you actually did that,
you could wind up in prison...

Regarding the message "A newer version of Internet Explorer already
exists...", you are getting that message because you have religiously
downloaded all of the updates (I think the latest count is around 64,000? he
he he...), including SP2, so the installer is telling you that you would be
rolling the installation backwards. His advice is correct to a point about
uninstalling all of the updates. Some of the updates state right in the
information page that once they are installed, they cannot be removed.

Here's my solution:
If you have a 3rd-party backup program, then backup all of your data files
and any programs that you purchased after you installed Windows onto a DVD
set (or CD's).
Depending on how big your hard drive is, it could take between 4-8 DVD's (or
a large stack of CD's). Once the disks have been verified by the backup
program, try doing a clean install on the hard drive and then restore the
files you had just backed up. This whole process and the aforementioned
64,000 subsequent Windows updates (just joking) will probably take about 4
hours, but you will have a "fresh" system.

Good luck,
Mack
