Last known good configuration

Hi

Can someone give me idiot proof instructions how to start
my computer in the last known good configuration. I know
there are instructions on the Microsoft site but they are
too vague for me I need very specific instructions.

Thanks.

Hi Mandy,

Restart your computer and before you get and Windows XP logo press F8. You
will be presented by few options for booting e.g. Safe Mode, Last known good
configuration, VGA mode, etc. From the menu select Last known good
configuration and wait for it to load.

I hope this helps you out,

Mike

I have done as instructed but when I pick the last known
good configuration option the computer just logs on - I
want to go back to the end of June - any suggestions?

Start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system restore. Go thru the
wizard and pick the date you want.(if available)

Ta
Mandy, that isn't how Last Known Good Configuration works. What you want
to do is either a) boot into Safe Mode and from there go to Start>All
Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore and choose a date that
suits you; OR b) if you can't get into Safe Mode, choose the option (on
the menu you get by tapping F8 at startup, just like you did to get
into Safe Mode) for Command Prompt Only and when you get the prompt
type:

"c:\Windows\System32\restore\rstrui.exe" without the quotes and then
press Enter to start System Restore.
