Laserjet 6L paper jam (not the usual)

This is not the usual multifeed problem. I suddenly found that the paper
is concertina-ing at the exit from the paper, after it has been through
the fuser unit etc. I think the cause is a small scrap of paper that got
torn off in a jam yesterday.

I tried to open this part of the printer by undoing two screws that
seemed to hold the exit rollers, but although this did loosen it a bit
it did not come right out. When the component was slightly loose I
thought I could feed a bit of paper but I could not get it out.

Is there any way to remove this part of the exit mechanim without
dismantling the whole machine?

It's easier to take apart the printer. There isn't much to remove,
though. It should not take very long to finish, maybe fifteen minutes.

There are three screws on the back cover. After removing these, there
are plastic latches at the bott om left and right corners, and at the
upper left and right corners. It is easier to remove the bottom ones
first.

Remove the memory door on the bottom side of the printer.

Remove the front door. The left hinge can bend somewhat. Press it
inward to release the door.

The main cover has two screws on the top. After removing these, pull
the lower front corners of the printer to release the case. Then lift
it off.

The right toner cartridge guide needs to be removed, since it is in the
way. It is the piece of black plastic on the right side of the printer,
just above the delivery assembly. There is a small button that sticks
through the side of the printer chassis. Press it and pull out the
assembly.

Remove the exit roller. It is held in place by a white plastic bushing
at each end. Pull the tabs on the bushings inward and rotate them.
Then you can lift the roller out.

At this point, you can remove the delivery assembly. It's held in by
two screws, which you have already determined.

When replacing the delivery assembly, make sure the plastic tabs on the
front are under the fuser plate so that it will be correctly seated.

At this point, you can see the paper exit sensor flag clearly. Make
sure that it moves freely and properly seated.

When reassembling the printer, everything should go together easily. If
it does not, check to make sure that the part is lined up properly.
