Laptop sound not functioning..

I have a year-old Inspiron6000.. The sound was great and everything,
and one day (yesterday), it just stopped working. I've tried all the
troubleshoot suggestions, and it acts like sound should be coming out
(it says the audio device is functioning properly and everything, and
doesn't show any sign of a problem). The warranty just expired a few
months ago, and I'm wondering if there's a way to fix this without
spending a lot of money for repairs. I didn't download anything, or
drop the laptop; it just stopped working. Is it just that Dell makes
crappy computers, and I'll have to go to a computer specialist to get
it fixed?

First thing to check.... if you have Real Player installed launch it and
check it's not set to low volume or mute. It overrides ALL other notebook
settings.
