LAN settings

Hello everyone. I am curious if someone can help me with a somewhat minor
annoyance I am having. I use Earthlink Total Access dial-up software and
have Windows XP Media Center edition SP2. When I connect to the web via Total
Access a second "dial-up connection" box appears asking me to connect. If I
click cancel my connection is lost, and if I click connect my browsing
becomes buggy. So I went into Internet Options>Connections>LAN settings>Proxy
server and uncheked the settings in proxy server. This always solves the
problem. The annoyance is that the the checked boxes under Proxy server
always become rechecked after a restart. I have also taken another step
trying to solve this:Control panel>Network and Internet Connections>Network
connections>Advanced>Dial-up preferences and disabled auto-dial while I'm
logged in, also unchecking "My location" and "Dial-up" under "enable autodial
by location". In short, can someone tell me how I can make sure that when I
save my LAN settings they actually stay that way? Or will I forever have to
manually do this silly step? Thanks.

ISP rule of thumb # 1: If the ISP requires software to be loaded,
use another ISP.
