hello Guys,

I just created an ghost image of Windows XP for a Compaq
(EVO N1000v) laptop.

After dumping the image to a similar laptop it will
always reboot and bring me to the F8 boot choices (Safe
mode, safe mode with networking, Normal etc)and if i made
a choice it will reboot again.

Is there other way to troubleshoot this problem just like
step-by-step confirmation in Win98. Or if you have any
suggestions how to solve this problem please let me know.

Thanks a lot.

Which system is constantly rebooting? The one the image was made from or
the one the image was transferred to?

If you can't get XP to boot, you'll need to do a repair install. If that
doesn't work, reinstall. MS Knowledge Base article for repair install:
How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;315341

NOTE: The above article applies to a retail CD or a generic OEM CD. If your
Windows came preinstalled and your recovery media has been customized by
the manufacturer, check your system manual for restore/repair options and
for directions.

Hello Sharon,

Thanks for your response.

The Image that I've transferred to another laptop is keep
on rebooting. The laptop where i get the image is working
ok.

I will try your suggestions and let you know what happen.

Thanks again... More Power!

Okay, in that case the reboot behavior is to be expected. XP sets up for
very specific hardware. You moved the image to a similar - but not exactly
the same - machine. The differences are giving XP a conniption. A repair
install should sort things out.

You'll need to figure out what's going on with your licensing as well. I
can't tell from what you've posted if you have multiple licenses or not.
Each system that XP is installed on will need its own unique product key.
Most of the Office licenses allow installing on both a main system and a
second portable system for the same user. The operating systems do not make
this same allowance.

Best of luck to you with this.
