In word 2000, there was an option that automatically changed the style I was
using when I formatted. How do I find that option. This is driving me
crazy. And is there any way to completely delete the calibri font?

It's a good thing you mentioned the Calibri font, or no one would have had a
clue that you're asking about Word 2007.

In Word 2007, go to Office button > Word Options > Proofing and click the
AutoCorrect Options button. In the next dialog, click the AutoFormat As You Type
tab and uncheck the option "Define styles based on your formatting".

Using Windows Explorer (also known as My Computer or just Computer, depending on
your Windows version) you can uninstall the Calibri font from the Windows\Fonts
folder. Then you should redefine all the styles in the Normal template that
refer to it so they use your preferred font instead, and replace it where it
occurs in any Themes you use.

It would be easier to leave Calibri in place, and just switch the Quick Style
set to the Word 2003 group. To do that, click the Change Styles button on the
Home ribbon, click Style Set, and click Word 2003. Then on the Page Layout tab,
click the Font button in the Themes group and choose Office Classic, which uses
Times New Roman for body text and Arial for headings.

I'm a little confused by your question. Are you seeking an answer for Word
2000... or for a later version. The reference to the Calibri font makes me
think perhaps you're talking about Word 2007.

Assuming Word 2007... if the target style is displayed in the Styles "Quick
Styles Gallery" in the Home ribbon, right-click it and choose Modify. One of
the options near the bottom of the Modify Style dialog box is Automatically
update. That's the culprit you seek.

If the target style isn't displayed in the Quick Styles Gallery, put the
insertion point in text that uses the style of interest, and press
Ctrl+Shift+S. Click Modify.

To remove Calibri, you would need to use your operating system's Font applet
in the Control Panel. I wouldn't recommend doing it, but it's your computer.
In the Fonts control, you'll find Calibri, Calibri Bold, Calibri Bold
Italic, and Calibri Italic. You'd need to remove all four... But, never
having done it, I've no idea whether it might break something.
