Default Styles

I'm having some difficulty understanding the styles menu. I don't like the
(Word 2007?) style that seems to come up when I start Word. The Calibri font
is non-standard so far as I know. I have Word installed on an XP computer
and on a Vista computer. On the XP computer, I get the standard Times New
Roman, 12 point style, on the Vista machine, the Calibri style. I opened a
word file created on the XP machine on the Vista machine via flash drive for
printing and noticed that the quick style gallery in the ribbon reflected the
Times New Roman style. Very happy with this, I saved this style to the quick
style gallery (and named it Times Standard) and then selected this as the
default style. Every time that I open Word, however, the newer Calibri style
is still selected and I have to go into the style gallery and select it
manually. I don't see the need to change the default font as it seems to
have an effect on the styles. I just want the "Times Standard" style be
active when I open Word. Any ideas?

I don't use 2007, but I suspect that it will respond in exactly the same way
as earlier versions. Open the default template for editing. Apply your
preferred style to the opening paragraph. Add a character to the text page,
then delete it so that the template sees something to be saved. Then save
the template.
