How do I keep the 3 yer old from clicking like mad on programs and screwing up the computer
I have already made my name the administrator. There has to be a solution?

yes, you can create a new user for your child , and after
this acess it and only delete the shortcuts that you dont
want your child kiding, but this is an exemple, your child
dont know how acess the others users from his user ,do ;]
hehehe.

Buy him his own little reconditioned Pentium II and
install some filtering software on the O.S.

No matter how hard you try,a three year old is always
going to mess up your computer.
Get him one purely for his sole use.Secondhand P.C.s are
as cheap as chips. Some operating systems are free, but 98
and XP might not be considered exhorbitant.
Teach him how to format the drive.Wipe whatever might be
lurking on it from a previous owner.Spend *quality time*
installing all the software with him.

He sounds cool.He might be the next Bill Gates for all
you know.

Depending on your familiarity with Windows and your technical skills level but there is a tool included with Windows (even back to Windows 98). This tool is called Group Policies. It does require some technical skills. I suggest if you go this route that you do so on a test system so your real PC is not affected if you make a mistake.

Hi:

If your kid's account is a Limited Account, there is no way he can do any
real damage
with limited privileges. In addition give him read and write only
permissions in the
security tab of the c:\ drive

Changing user permissions: Start\settings\control panel\folder
options\view\disable (remove check)
in; use simple file sharing (recommended)..
Next in desktop\My Computer\C:\Properties\security\add the user account and
change
permissions to only read and write.

The problem with a limited account is your child wont be able to run ANY programs either! If your running XP Home like I am you wont be able to use the group policy snap=in reccomended above, you must have XP PRO for that. This makes no sense to me. Sounds like MicroSoft failed miserably on alowing their customers to manage their user accounts
