Even though it has been "successfully" installed, the icon keeps coming up in
the taskbar informing that an update is ready to be installed. No matter how
often I reinstall it, it keeps coming back after each "successful" install.

How do I get rid of this?

I suggest you look through the posts in and if need be post to the windows
update newsgroup. That's where the WU experts hang out.
