I manually downloaded KB915597 (Definition 1.18.2623.4) from
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=70631.

(The status of Windows Defender indicates that the update was
downloaded/installed successfully).

But, the update does not show in my Windows Update History or in Add or
Remove Programs panel.

Any ideas as how to rectify this?

I believe this is normal--these updates do not show in those locations. If
the correct version number is shown at the bottom of the Windows Defender
application home page, you're ok.
