Endless update of KB915597

Endless Definition Update 1.14.1353.2 for BETA Windows Defender (KB915597).
Review of PC Update History reports that update has succeeded many times.
"Add or Remove Programs" does not acknowledge KB915597.
"About Windows Defender" does not acknowledge KB915597 update.
Does anyone know what is going on and the remedy ?

I've had the same problems many times. Check out
http://Support.microsoft.com/?kbid=915105 it works for me. Current Sig
version should be 1.14.1358.2. Hope this helps.

It is the second update i need to use the Msiexec trick...

I've had to use it 6 or 7 times now. Maybe part of the Check for updates
should automatically delete the old sig version before attempting to update.
Instead I guess we have to do it ourselves.

I followed the instructions in that article but it didn't fix my problem.

you may try this:
Uninstall WD again, download this program:
http://download.betanews.com/download/1131569373-2/Dial-a-fix-full.exe
Run this program with all the functions activated.
Install WD again.

I have been having trouble with the same update definition1.20.2741 for weeks
now.

I have tried everything that everyone has suggested to no avail. I have
even raised this issue with Microsoft whose suggestions were not helpful as I
have already tried everything. I am going to ring them now. Will let u know
how I get on.

It would be helpful if you posted the error code associated with your
update problem. However, the general update issue resolver is:

I'd suggest to use that KB first, but have you used Google or better yet
the Microsoft site to search for your exact update issue? There are many
potential fixes already documented, although you should include that error
code in any such search, otherwise anyone with the ability to help is more
or less just shooting in the dark.

Sorr I omitted the error code 0X80240016. I have tried everything
suggested. Still same. I can't find any trace in any KB with that error.

If you've worked through all the steps of KB918355, then all I see
searching the Microsoft site is this SKYPE reference:

The 0x80240016 will probably not show up specifically in a KB but it means
the following in Windows Update (WU):


WU_E_INSTALL_NOT_ALLOWED

Operation tried to install while another installation was in progress or
the system was pending a mandatory restart.
