I installed Norton 2005 to clean up my system before I upgraded from windows
ME to XP. Now my Norton 2005 won't work and it will not let me remove it
saying in requires windows 98 or ME. What can i do?

Contact Symantec support, they have removal tools for their software.

You may have to uninstall XP. I have talked with several people who
installed Norton 2005 and had nothing but trouble.

Don't be too upset. You can always reinstall XP.

Get a copy of Norton 2003 (seriously). Get it off the web (Amazon or
Ebay), or from a warez site.

I've been using Norton System Works 2003 since it was released. Have
had no problems with it. Just be sure to do a custom install and do
NOT install the anti-Virus which is cRAP.

Uninstall XP, uninstall Norton 2005, and then install XP again.

You can then safely install Norton 2003.

If all else fails, backup, install XP, or format and install XP, and
then install Norton 2003.

Also give GoBack a try. It's on the disk with Norton 2003. And I
found for several years that GoBack 2003 is FAR superior to
Microsoft's Restore, which half the time doesn't work for me, anyway.

Search for rnav.exe at the Symantec site.

A caveat for XP upgrades is to remove the AV prior to the upgrade regarding
Norton.
