Just installed SP2, and now I cannot turn off the popup blocker

That is, I've theoretically turned off the popup blocker; I've also tried to
add websites to the list of sites that allow popups, but nothing works except
holding down the Control key.

I didn't have this problem prior to installing SP2.

I noticed that there was a similar posting to this back in June, but it
didn't look like anything was resolved. Can anyone shed any light on this? I
presume it's a bug, but its practically impossible to report a bug to
Microsft..

In addition to Robear's post, do you have any other pop-up blocker installed
that you may not be aware of? Such as toolbars from Google, Yahoo,
EarthLink, etc....

Yes, I installed both the critical updates and Sp2 today.

I noticed after I posted this that there was another more recent thread
about this same problem. Some people were saying that they had the problem
prior to loading SP2, so I wonder if the problem actually came from one of
the updates other than SP2.

Please include all of previous message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup.

Are you running a Norton application (e.g., NAV, NIS)? Any third-party
toolbar (e.g., Google, MSN, AIM, Yahoo)?

No, I don't.

This first came to light when a client of ours complained of this after she
got a new laptop. So she has a very clean machine, with a very new
installation of Windows XP and Microsoft Office. To try and recreate the
problem, I updated my Windows system today, installing SP2 and all of the
Windows critical updates. And voila! Popups were blocked and the popup
blocker could not be turned off, either generally or by listing the specific
website for the application as one that would allow popups. All we can do is
hold down the control key.

Pop-up blocker setting controlled by Group Policy?
Admin Templates/Windows Components/Internet Explorer/Internet Control
Panel/Security Page/<all zones>

Thank you for answering me, Jon. I actually don't know how to get "Admin
Templates/Windows Components....."

Start...Run....gpedit.msc, click Okay. This will start the GP editor, if
it's not disabled that is. Is this a business machine?
