jpg files won't copy to cd/dvd rw drive or disk

I am trying to copy jpg files to a dvd rw in the dvd drive from the my
pictures folder. NO matter if it is one pic or a lot the response is always
the same. "Windows encountered a prblem when trying to copy this file. What
would you like windows to do? retry skip cancel?"

I had in the past been able to back up.

Any help would be apprciated

You could have never backed up anything to a DVD using Windows XP, you need
a 3rd party application to write to a DVD.

Stick a CD-R/W in the drive and try again.
XP can natively write to CD but not DVD.
