DVD/RW Software Question:

R

Robert

I recently upgraded my Dell Dimension 8200 with a new LG DVD/RW drive.
The main reason I did this was to copy jpg files over to disk and the
drive came with software but I'm not sure what does what. I would
appreciate it if someone could please explain what each does and what
is the best to use for my purpose.

Nero
Cyberlink DVD Suite
SecurDisc Viewer
Acrobat Reader
Lightscribe

I also have another question which hasn't been fully answered. After I
installed the drive instead of saying DVD/RW it says CD-ROM because it
isn't digitally signed. I've been told not to worry about this and I
suppose I should try and create a disk to see if it indeed does work
but am still wondering why it isn't digitally signed and is there a
way to correct this? I would hate to think I spent all the money, time
and effort just to have another CD-ROM drive!

Thanks,
Robert

Install all the software except Acrobat Reader which I assume you
already have installed and is probably a newer version than what comes
with the software bundled with your DVD drive. Then, your drive in My
Computer should read DVD-RAM Drive. I have the same LG drive you have on
two computers.

What DVD/CD writing software you buy has nothing to do with the OS but
with personal preference.

Nero

Nero is for making dvd's and cd's. You will be pleased with the one you
got with your drive,
Cyberlink DVD Suite

Plays dvds
SecurDisc Viewer

It is to secure your data on a dvd/cd. Forget about it unless you're a
secret agent or you don't want your wife to see your porno pictures.
Acrobat Reader

It is a free program to read .pdf files and not related to your cd-dvd

Go to lightscribe.com and read all about it.

Robert - You're going overboard here. Sometimes you just have to accept
these things or pay $60.00 an hour to Microsoft and they will fix it.

Nero is the best and since it came with your drive it is the one you probably
will use.
I like it a lot. It will burn DVD or CD disc from any file that you choose.

As far as chaning the name of the drive, there is a way to do that. If you
have not got it changed reply to this and I will pick up on it advise you.

How am I going overboard? I'm asking a perfectly reasonable question
and I went with your recommendation to get the LG drive and you
yourself said that yours its digitally signed. I'm just wondering why
mine isn't and whether it will affect it's performance.

Have you tried playing a DVD and burning a DVD?

Did you ever think of using the "HELP" when Nero is opened? No?
Why not?

I want to thank everyone for explaining what the different programs
meant. Yes, it does play DVD's so I guess I'm worrying for nothing.
Sorry guys.
