Hello
I have a strange problem going on with my computer. My pointer(cursor arrow) keeps having an hourglass next to it going on and off over and over again. When I am dialed in to the internet it goes away. Its almost like I have soemthing running or my computer is looking for something. Nothing is running and I have rebooted a few times. What can be the deal? I have also Restored My Computer via Help and Support for XP but nothing has worked so fa
ANy help will be appreciated

Run msconfig, go to Startup tab, uncheck everything,
Apply, re-boot, if problem is gone, turn things back on in
msconfig one-at-a-time . . . Good Luck ! Also you might
look in the Event Log . . .

Update your antivirus.
Download, install, and UPDATE the following programs:

Spybot-S&D (http://spybot.safer-networking.de/)
AND (it's AND, not OR)
Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/)

Disconnect Internet.
Restart computer in Safe Mode (see Help(F1) for more
information), and
scan it using all these programs, antivirus first.

Good Luck!

Always keep antivirus and spy removal applications (links

of the page) up-to-date, and scan regularly.

Thank you both!!
I have PC cellin and have scanned my hard drive = no viruses - is spybot the same? Also - I don't see a Safe Mode setting for restart - F1 doesn't have anything on that

Spybot scans for spyware, anti-virus programs scan for
viruses and trojans, etc. They're not the same. Is your
Pc cillin updated ? Safe mode can be reached by tapping
the F8 key at startup (after BIOS messages, before the
Window logo comes up) or by going to Start, Run type
msconfig then hit OK, go to the BOOT.INI tab and check
the /SAFEBOOT item. (go back and uncheck it after you boot
to SAFE mode to get back to a normal startup)
Good Luck !

Thanks MGG
When I uncheck those items in msconfig/startup tab and then start checking them again - do I reboot after each checked item

Bring up the Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL), click the Processes tab, then
click the CPU tab twice. This will sort the running program according to
CPU usage. Look for what is using the most cycles.
