Is Java not compatible?

With Vista?

Trying to run Limewire and when it initialises Java, the screen blinks and
the normal theme breaks and is replaced by 'crippled' one. LW then doesn't
actually work properly.

Any idea of what's going on here?

Yes, Java is trying to write directly to the screen buffer (a bad idea) and
the Windows Desktop Window Manager cannot run if that is happening. That is
why the screen blanks and Aero goes away. I was under the impression that
Sun had a newer version of Java that was compatible with Vista so you might
check their web site to make sure you have the latest.

I've been doing Java on Vista Business for months, using several JDKs, so
there's no general problem with Java. Find out what level of the Java Runtime
Environment (JRE) Limewire requires, and whether there are reported problems
with the 1.6 JRE you probably have now.

BTW, if part of Limewire's "solution" is to "Run as administrator", run. For
the hills. Limewire is enough of an exposure without doing this.

Another noite - running under a user account listed as a "computer
administrator" is not the same as "running as" *the* administrator.

That solved it. Thank you.
