help with Java on Vista

P

Pam

I'm on a new Vista computer and have never had this problem of course before
.... used to run xp pro ....nice os...

anyway - once a week I try to log into a vereconference program thru java
.... when I enter my password/username and click ok, the java screen appears
to try to load and I get an error that says Splash: recv failed .. I click
on, the Java screen trys to load and then quits .. I can never get into the
conference. I've tried clearing temp files/browser, cookies etc... reloading
the page, shutting down the browser (FF) and reopening - nothing works...why
won't Java let run on this OS or what can I do to get it to run? I've also
tried shutting down my firewall - comodo - telling comodo that JAVA is safe
extension, tried running it in OE - no luck...

can someone help me - I've also tried going to the Sun Java help page - no
help there either..

any ideas would be greatly apprecaited

Java is a programming language. The program you're trying to use
happens to be written in Java. It's not the language's fault that
there's a bug in this system. You should contact whoever wrote that
program.

Maybe it's not compatible with Vista. I know nothing about this
program, you need to complain to the manufacturer.

Thanks for the help - unfortuantely, did what you suggested - still get the
splash recv: failed error - I've tried IE (meant that not OE sorry)
uninstalled the version of java I had v 6.10 and got the new 6.11 version
.... turned off UAC - rebooted, refreshed browser, deleted files etc....
still splash error

and even though Tim is saying this is a program problem - I'm confident it
is not ... I've never had problems getting into the conference room on xp
pro - only since I've gotten this new computer that came with Vista - there
has to be some kind of work around...I've googled till my eyes hurt, have
gone to Sun's support room..no help there.... and when I google, seems like
an awful lot of people have the same problem - but no solutions to be found.

any other ideas?

Pam, I assume you mean the VOIP conference thing - not sure because it's
not something I have used.

If so it is working here and gets to where I can sign in for a free
conference or whatever. From your posts you are not getting that far, right?

I am running Vista 64 bit and noticed that I have 3 versions of Java
installed, Java updates do not remove previous versions so if you look
in control panel / add or remove a program (whatever it says) you should
be able to uninstall all but the highest version number. My versions are
all recent but if you have an older one I guess that just might have a
problem. Incidentally it says Vereconference Ver 5.0 - is that visible
for you or don't you get that far?

However looking at the page source I see it uses JavaSCRIPT and PHP but
don't see Java anywhere. Javascript is NOT Java, it is simply a
scripting language that has similar syntax to Java. Where did you get
the connection to Java from or am I missing something? I am running
Firefox too, is yours the latest version? Are updates available?

Sorry, do not have much time so apologies for any errors, but don't want
to go barking up the wrong tree either.

mmm VOIP conference....not sure - it's a conference room that is hosted by
www.vereconference.org

I'm running Vista Home Premium 32 bit - I have only one installation of Java
running 6 Update 11

When I go to the website where the log in is to enter the room - it accepts
that info, then downloads a jnlp file - when it tries to open that file, I
get the 'Splash: recv failed' - and then when I click ok on that screen -
the Java 6 splash screen is there but it just goes away after a few seconds
and then nothing.

the page I go to to log in is http://1199826795.vereconference.org/ and I've
tried all the trouble shooting help they offer - I have also just downloaded
opera as one site said Opera was beter at opening java then other browsers -
so I tried that - the FIRST time I tried to open the conf - it worked ... so
I quit the room - tried again - and the error box is back ... sometimes this
will happen IF I just boot up, clear all the cache/files etc...reload the
browser - and cross my fingers and toes and hold my breath.....then again
more often it does not work.'

on the java script vs java....I'm out of my league here - when you look at
what I'm trying to do - are you saying that its not a Java problem?
