Is AVG 6.0 still updateable?

Hi,

I have been trying to update my installed free version of AVG 6.0 for
the last several days. When I use the control center to go get the
latest update it just hangs and apparently no connection is made.

The URL being used is:

http//:free.grisoft.cz/softw/60/fe/avg6info.cfl

I have had no problems in the past updating.

After a period of time I cancel the request and I get the following
message:

"An automatic connection to the internet could not be established.
Please manually establish a connection to download your update files.
(This can typically be done by launching you internet browser)

My browser is connected. I have tried using both IE6 and Netscape 7.1.

Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

Updated to the Sept. 11th release but it took a very long time to connect
and the download speed was only 2k/sec.

AVG6 Free version is very much alive and kicking. The problem is at least
twofold: 1. It's very popular and many folks are using it and requesting
updates, 2. There's been an increased interest in updating with the spread
of worms during the summer. I downloaded the September 11 update yesterday,
but it took awhile to connect and the download speed was extremely slow even
though I am on broadband. This leads me to believe that 3. Grisoft may need
additional servers to handle the demand. If you cannot get the automatic
download, you can try to go to Grisoft using your browser and get the latest
update by typing in the URL you quoted, minus the cfl file at the end.

I'm getting the same thing here. I also don't seem to be able to
manually download the update from
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_updt6.php?avg6=fe at the moment.

I take it back - I kept on trying, and finally managed to get a
connection. I'm currently downloading the update manually, but only at
about 4KB/S. Their servers must be busy or something....

Don't cancel. Click the Update button and walk away from it. Eventually,
it will kick in. At least that's been my experience. Just keep trying.

It is often much easier to go here:

http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_updt6.php?avg6=fe

and download the .bin file to your update folder.
Upon next reboot, the free AVG6 will update itself
with the newly-applied .bin file.

A nice person was kind enough to send me the update and now I have a
current file.

They must be overwhelmed with requests and I hope it doesn't lead to
them discontinuing the free version.
