Hey all,
I have a mini-Ipod and i'm having a real problem connecting to my
machine ever since I upgraded to windows XP. Everytime I connect my
mini-Ipod I am receiving the following error from windows, "IPodService
Module has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for
the inconvenience." Has anyone run into the same situation? I have
tried uninstalling and installing Itunes as well as stopping and
starting the IpodService to no success. Any help would be greatly
appreciated in this matter. Thanks.

I've done everything the documenatation for service support says. As
well as downloaded the iPod Software for windows updater. So Far I am
still receiving the same error message when I try to connect my Mini
Ipod.

Ipod support groups/faqs really don't have anything to say about this
particular situation. They outline a step by step process to go through
if unable to connect. I followed this step by step and still continue
to receive the following error on my XP machine when I connect my
mini-Ipod. A windows error box with the following message, "
IPodService
| Module has encountered a problem and needs to close." I never had
this problem on my windows 2000 machine.

Hi,

Program Checker: http://www.programchecker.com/file/13732.aspx

Without knowing more, is the Service running?
Go to Start/Run: services.msc

That asked, where is it installed: Here is an example:
C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe

Other checkpoints: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Userdata\S-1-5-18\Components\E141724DB89E22.

and....

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.

Other than the above, many have claimed this error message is due to have an
infected system. In the meantime, start here, good luck and keep us posted!

Run Ad-Aware SE, Spybot, CWShredder and HijackThis:

Note: Update the first two programs, once installed, before running.

if you havn't already tries this, go to the itunes site and download both
the newest itunes and the newest ipod firmware updater, both only about 1
month old. Unfortunately, they are rather large (53 MB for the firmware
updater - COME ON APPLE, do I really need to dl that to update my shuffle!
arrrg; break it up by model, please!).

note that the new firmware often requires the new itunes, so...

update itunes FIRST (w/ ipod disconneted), reboot, then do the ipod
firmware; don't connect ipod until prompted to do so. this should give
you a new(er) ipod_service. I'd set ipod_service's startup-type to
AUTOMATIC too.

Hopefully that'll work out your issues.

My service is running and it is installed in the path that you just
mentioned. I ran all the software you just mentioned and cleaned up the
machine. However, this issue keeps arising. Still get the windows error
box with the message I mentioned before. I also tried uninstalling
iTunes and installing the firmware as well. This didn't seem to help
either. Thanks for the suggestions.

The Apple Error #2095 can be resolved by installing the standalone version of
Quicktime 7.
I had installed an iPod and iTunes and had the "has to close" error message
when attempting to open iTunes. Without uninstalling anything, I downloaded
the standalone version of Quicktime from here:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html

Installed it and restarted the computer. Worked like a charm.

It seems that the CD installation pack and the downloadable iTunes installer
(~32MB) don't have the necessary "service starters".

Regards.

Hey,
Thanks for the reply. However, I did what you just mention and
continue to receive the same error. The error I get is not an iTunes
error though. It's an error that just pops up when I connect my ipod
mini.

iPod Service module error

I did all the above also and it doesn't give me the error when i plug in my iPod nano, but it still does when i launch iTunes. Any more info on this? Apple isn't much help. Did everything i can think of, what i found on Apple.com and here.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem?

I would also like to know if you have found a solution to your problem or if anyone else has a solution because I have the exact same problem and have followed every so called solution on apple's website and i'm running out of ideas what to do. If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated

I believe it has to do with using a 'registry cleaner'. Have you used a registry cleaner recently? Can your PC recognise any USB devices? Mine can't. Can you restore your computer back to when your ipod worked ok? I can't.

If so then you have the same problem. I suggest you copy all data to a separate hard drive and use recovery disc and restore.

I haven't used a registry cleaner recently and my PC can recognise USB devices. My iPod mini used to show in iTunes so I might restore my computer back to when it worked. If I do this, what do I lose that has been done between now and the day I restore it back to? I also may have realised myself what may have caused the problem: I updated to iTunes 7.1.1 yesterday and today is the first time I have tried to update my mini iPod with iTunes 7.1.1 so maybe it is that version of iTunes.

IPodService Module

I have a new iPod Video 6th generation. I'm having the same problem as the rest of you with trying to get it to connect. I've already tried everything suggested before I found this site except for one idea which I also tried and it failed to cure the problem also. It's seems I have something of a complete white elephant now.... Thank you crapple pod for nothing! Their site is of no help with this issue. The only thing I can think of is software compatibility issues but I'll be dammed if I'm tearing my PC apart to get this useless device to work. I should have bought the Creative offering instead. My girlfriend has a lap-top on which she also runs XP, it has far less software on it and after buggering around with the service programmes it worked fine but that's not much use to me at home.

Surely there is at least one propeller head out there who has solved this issue? It going to be registry issue or clash I reckon but what with? Perhaps I'll decamp my pc to the Apple store and let them figure it out if they can, not easy as it's a server case.

Ok just a little update on my situation. I just connected it to my friend's laptop which had iTunes and it worked perfectly and I even managed to sync music to it so my iPod definetly isn't broken. I just restore it now to the factory settings on the laptop so that it is clean again and can sync with my pc. Sadly I am still getting the same iPodService Module problem on my computer

Crapple Pod

Interesting that you also found a lap-top XP install works fine. As you say our kit clearly works fine so the problem is with the devices we are using at home. I'm sure this is down to a software clash, so something within the registry is screwing things up. Probably your friend’s lap-top also has less software on it as in my case. I noticed that unlike windows media player iTunes is affected by anything else that puts even a small surge on the CPU in a way which Media Player is not. I have quite a few Media Player type programmes on my PC and I think I may go through these to see if any of these have this in common and if this is the cause of the clash. They don't take long to uninstall so that wouldn't be too painful. The problem is a Windows problem (As ever) but crapple should really have given more help in this area as many people are getting this problem and lets face how many people actually have an MAC. They should have anticipated that the likelihood of this being used on PC's with a great many such software components was always going to be a very high possibility. I'm doing a global back-up now before having a play with a few things. The other possibility is the anti virus and software firewall being run but I'm not prepared to strip those off permanently obviously. Perhaps a change in install sequence might get around it in the way the registry is put together. Get iTunes on early, get it working then on goes the rest and keep checking until either it's all back on or it fails. This is so annoying.
