ipod & usb

Lenovo laptop, 2 USB 2.0 ports, XP/SP2.
A pocket drive lives in one USB port as E:, the other port is everything else.
Has been working fine for years ...

I installed iTunes/iPod using 2nd port -- all work fine.
Both USB ports are still working hardware-wise <=== Note.
If I plug in a USB device with own program, such as camera, iPod, etc, it
works fine.
But the 2nd port (the one the Ipod was in) is not recognized by Windows if I
plug in a thumb drive, etc -- I cannot see the drive F: in My Computer.
If I open a command window, I can see drive F and read/write, etc ...

I just cannot see it in Windows itself ???
Annoying ...

Any ideas - thanks in advance
John

Good thought - Thanks ! I tried several times, but no change.
The machine makes the little "USB plug/unplug" sound and all that, but will
not show the drive it "My Computer" even though I can access it.

What letters do appear in My computer, and is there a "real drive" for
the letter? Also in Disk Management what letters appear compared to
physically connected drives?

Ah-ha, found it ! Thanks !
When I plugged in USB drive, F showed in Disk Management.

I relooked at My Computer & saw that the external drive on my desktop
(networked system) had F: assigned. If I click on that I see the USB drive.
I've got to unscrew that, but I don't remember the problem before the iPod
install.

Again, thanks - your questions helped me see the issue ...
