iPod Drivers Not Install, but Software Is

I can't use my iPod mini because the drivers won't install even though the
software is installed. I didn't plug in the device until prompted by the
install wizard, but in reality I think it was too soon. I have a Dell
Inspiron 5150, Pentium 4 laptop with XP SP2. Since installing SP2 my new USB
devices stopped installing automatically in general. I have worked through
this problem before by using the New Hardware Wizard to search for a driver
in the location given by the product's support team. I need help finding the
root cause of my problem, as well as how to find the driver for my iPod. I
don't know what file I am looking for.

BTW, I have the same problem when I plug in a flash drive, a multi-card
reader, or any other USB device. The New Hardware Wizard always comes up but
the driver is never found. When I look in regedit the driver files are
missing in the folders for the devices I have tried since installing SP2.
The flash drive and card reader didn't even come with software.

See if Dell has updated drivers for your laptop's USB.

I searched Dell's site and the only thing I found said the USB drivers come
with XP SP2. I have tried downloading and installing SP2 again, but nothing
changes.

Then I'm sorry but I don't have an answer for you. I haven't had any
problems with USB ports, SP2, and Dells on any of my machines or any
clients'. That doesn't invalidate your experience, of course. Call Dell
tech support. Call Ipod Mini tech support.

Good luck,

Malke
