Internet getting very slow

Hello friends,

I've 20 systems in my network along with router. Server is Win 2K
advanced server. Clients are Win XP Professional. I dont know suddenly
internet connection getting slow. Ours is broadband
connection(640KBPS). Iternet is connected but always disconnecting and
connecting...disconnect state is about 1 minute only. If I want to get
mail to my outlook, not able to retrieve. alerting "server
disconnected".

Means connection is not continuous. I've McAfee Antivirus in all the
systems. Every system is saying "no virus". I've run Yahoo AntiSpy,
that also showing nothing.

I've VoIP settings in the router. Since a long time no problem. Only
since s'day problem arose.

What could be the problem? How to check port data transfer status? or
anything is blocking?

thanks in advance

Sounds like your router is getting elderly and/or you're having other
hardware problems. Naturally, your first step would have been to call
your Internet provider to make sure nothing is wrong on their end.

I agree with Malke's advice in that the router would be suspect if all
computers are having the problem or it could be a problem on your ISP's end.
It may help to physically disconnect power to the router for a minute or two
which sometimes clears up problems and trying to do a soft reset on it per
it's instruction manual. I have had a few routers fail on me after a couple
of years and if they are in an area that does not allow good ventilation and
they will die an early death.

Hi Friends,

thanx for the replies. I did router power off and on. At that time it
is very fast and later, same problem. I contacted ISP, there is no
problem at that end.

thanx

Then swap out the router for a known-working one.
