Internet Explorer will not open/work

My internet Explore will not open? The error logn states Faulting application iexplore.exe version 6.0.2800.1106 faulting module winshow.dll, version 1.0.0.1 fault address 0x00009901? Help Please. Also explore starts up automatically every time windows starts, can I stop that as well. Help??

I had the exact same problem until a few moments ago. The problem resides not with Internet Explorer or XP but with malicious adware and bots. Reinstalling IE and/or XP do not work (as I learned the hard way). You must remove the offending software and (more importantly) the registry entries associated with the software. I successfull used Spybot Search & Destroy (downloadable for free from www.safer-networking.org) and in a few minutes I was back up and running without a hitch.
