Internet Explorer is messed up

Recently, internet explorer has been acting up on my
computer. At first when I opened it the computer would
simply shut down without any sort of warning. To fix
that problem I downloaded an update for the program.
Now, the shutting down problem seems to have stopped, but
now I'm getting error messages with the internet
explorer. The problem occurs when I go to
games.yahoo.com and try to play a game (the games use
java software). It kept saying that IE Explorer had
experienced an error and needed to shut down and allowed
me to send a report, but the report never worked (it
always stopped responding). So, I decided to download
one of their games, hoping to get around the problem, but
got the same sort of error messages with the game.
Please help me!

Check this setting.
Tools/internet options/advanced/Microsoft VM
....only tick the JIT compiler box and leave the Java boxes un checked
(default)
