Intermittent long shutdown

No big hassle, but I'm puzzled.
Usually when I shut down, the 'Saving your Settings' takes about 5-10 secs.,
but every few days, even though I may have only logged on to play a basic
simple game or access another program which doesn't affect any change of
settings, it takes 1-2 mins.
Does anyone have an explanation for this?

I would also suggest running a disk cleanup and checkdisk:

Thanks also Michael, I'll wade through the lot, but as it's intermittent, it
will be a short while before I report back, I think.
