Insufficient memory to install print driver?

B

Bobby

My daughter has a Vista Home Premium PC that is trying to share the printer
attached to my Vista Ultimate PC over a wireless network.

Her PC detects the printer attached to my machine but when she selects it,
Windows reports that she has insufficient memory to install the driver.

She has 1Gb of RAM on her (brand new) PC.

Any ideas?

Hi Bobby,

Lot's of possible causes, but most likely to be interference from a
background application. Run msconfig from the start box, and on the general
tab put the system in diagnostic mode. Reboot and see if you are able to
load the printer now.

Thanks Rick. I'll give that a try.

But does this mean that 1Gb RAM is really not usable in Vista? I wouldn't
have thought that some background apps could stop a driver from loading
unless the system is running at the margins.

And she also has the Virtual Memory available. Rick's advice is sound and
you have plenty of memory, there is something else interfering.

Hi,

No, as John said, 1GB is plenty. Something it interfering with the routine
and/or not releasing memory when it's supposed to. This could be malware,
non-compliant applications, or other routines. By putting it in diagnostic
mode you should be able to minimize this.

Could also be caused by a corrupted file/driver.

When I had the exact same problem, I had to download the Vista drivers to the
laptop with Vista. Then the printer got added and "installed" and all works
just fine now,
