installing xp problems

Hi, I am trying to install windows xp home and get to
installing and it says:
C:\$WIN_NT$"(NOT SURE THIS SYMBOL IS RIGHT BUT CLOSE)LSV386
\ASMS\1000\MSFT\WINDOWS\GDIPLUS\GDIPIUS.CAT is corup; it
contains all zeros...........what does this mean..? I
tried to find the file but cannot...i am running windows
ME now and am trying to upgrade to xp home....is there a
way around this error message.....? help thanks sue
