Installing XP Pro

Any help with this? It is based on an earlier post, but I've simplified the
problem, trying to get it to work. All the changes I've made have had no
effect on the problem.

I created the boot/install diskettes and attempted the install. After
waiting for all 6
diskettes to load, and selecting the partition to be loaded, I get:

Windows XP Professional Setup
======================

The following value in the .SIF file used by Setup is corrupted or missing.

Value 0 on the line in section [Source Disk Files] with key "SP1.cab."

Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.

I've re-run it several times with identical results.

I should explain that the HD is partitioned into 2 partitions. The first is
6.6 GB, the second is about 31 GB in size. The first partition was then
deleted (I will prepare this space later). The remaining 31 GB partition is
primary.

So, I'm attempting to load Windows XP to the 31GB partition.

Thanks very much for your assistance!

Remake the floppy diskettes.
You have one that is likely corrupted. Use 6 new floppy diskettes.

In fact - perform a full format on each one on another system before
creating the floppy diskette set with them so you can be sure the floppy
diskettes themselves are not corrupted.

Thank you, sir.

I will do this. However, the diskettes were brand new, and preformatted, so
they were formatted on another system before I used them.

Thanks very much. More on this soon.

Dear Shenan:

There was a comedy of errors.

When I got your link earlier, I opened it, but it came up in German. I
navigated from this to a page in English, but it was not the page with the
proper download. It had only one download, and was apparently not for SP1.
This page did not have alternate downloads for different SP levels. Since
it doesn't work without the proper SP level, I'm surprised MS would maintain
such a page, but they do.

I used a different computer to make a second set of diskettes, doing this
from the web page you specified. They worked very well indeed. So, thanks
very much.

I would like to be able to say what web page this was, but it is not
recorded in my history. Why it is not is another mystery.
