Installing Win2000 on a 60GB HD

Im trying to install my new harddrive on my computer. It is a Seagate
Barracuda 60GB HD. In my installation for Win2000 I just boot the
installation from CD, as I used to do. I specify my Promise Ultra ATA 100
controller for Win2000 as I used to do. But when I want to continue to
installing the software, the installation gives me an error saying there is
no harddrive installed on the computer. Is this because of the volume of the
HD, or some other fault??

It sounds to me like you have a new motherboard and that it has SATA drives and
will therefore need an additional card to drive the PATA disks. With that card
you wil also get the necessary information on how to install.
If you have a SATA motherboard you will have two reds connector wires for the
SATA that you will not find any use for until you buy a SATA hard disk.

Borge

But when I want to continue to

You may need to add the drivers for the controller, press F6 at the
start of the install boot process to add the drivers.

Just to give a reply to the two solutions. I already specified my drivers
during the installation, but it seems it doesnt do anything, but it used to
work before. My motherboard doesnt support SATA since it is a ASUS A7V, a
socket A motherboard, with 1,2 Ghz Duron processor.. maybe this gives a bit
more info

You'll want to boot the Windows 2000 setup disks or CD-Rom. The set of four
install disks can be created from your Windows 2000 CD-Rom; change to the
\bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute makeboot.exe (from dos) or
makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the prompts.

Then *F6* very early and very important (at setup is inspecting your system)
in the setup to prevent drive controller detection, and select S to specify
additional drivers. Then later you'll be prompted to insert the manufacturer
supplied Windows 2000 driver for your ultra ATA controller in drive "A"

If you wait and then S to specify additional drivers, then it may be too
late as Windows 2000 Setup at this point may have already assigned the
resources your drive's controller is wanting to use.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.
