Installing programmes & components

I am running windows xp Pro with a p4 2.4ghz processor &
1024 ram. However when I need to install anything it can
take up to 7 hours.

I would be grateful if anyone can help me with a patch.

What type of software installation are you referring to?

A Windows component or a third party software app?
