XP on second drive.

Does windows xp always run slower from hdd1 instead of
hdd0? It takes almost 8.30 mins to boot on a P4 2.4Ghz
with 512mb ram. Any advice on how to remedy this would be
great.

If I do That, what about the Boot.ini file?

Switching cables would just make the system not-bootable as you surmised,
plus if you did get it working, all the registry setting would point to the
wrong location.
Something else is causing the slow boot, the hard drive location has nothing
to do with it. It is probably networking related.
