Installing Microsoft programs and updates

Hi,
I am having a problem installing anything from the Microsoft website. I
have downloaded Service Pack 2 and other windows updates. I have also
downloaded Windows Media Player 10 but when I go to install them I am getting
error messages saying that they were unable to be installed. Any help would
be greatly appreciated.

Look in your Event Log and give us more specific errors, please.

Resolving problems with the Windows installer:

Also, if you are having trouble with installing Windows Updates, click
start/run and type %windir%\windowsupdate.log to open the file in notepad.
Scroll to the bottom and post back with the error codes (0x00000000) from
the most recent session.
