Installing HewlettPackard all-in-one printer

After I installed Windows XP Professional on my computer
I have been unable to install my printer. It seems to
install but the printer just won't print.
 
What kind of printer?
Does the test page work?
Does it show up in printers and faxes?

I have one of those and they're very tricky to install under WinXP for some
reason. You have to follow HP's instructions *EXACTLY*. In particular, you
must not attach the device to the computer before installing all of the HP
software. (After my first experience, I would not even let in *near* the
computer ;-)) .

Was your installation of WinXP an upgrade installation or a clean one? If it
was an upgrade, was the HP unit installed before the upgrade took place?
