Hello,

I have been using faxing from Windows for years. I got a new laptop and
trying to install the fax software. When installation started, the wizard
was searching for the fax files *.dll when the files on the CD are *.dl_
I pointed to the corresponding files until installation was completed. The
fax driver appeared on the printers list for few seconds then disappeard.
The same exact thing is happining with my business laptop which is using XP
Prof.
Can you help?
Kind regards,
Munir

I have exactly this problem with integral fax services. The I386 contains
both compressed and uncompressed files. When I try to install Fax I get a msg
that it cannot find a particular FX file and not always the same ones. When
using my Dell supplied CD it will not install at all. I tried deleting
compressed files hoping I could force the system to load the uncompressed.
I went to the link that suppodedly allows you to decompress files , tried
double click but do not get option to browse and find a routine to open the
comressed filse. Cna anyone help?
Is it possible to download the fax service from M,soft?

Thank you Russ!

sorry for the late response, I was travelling!

I tried the instructions in the attachment with no luck. I managed with
some difficutly to expand all the files but I failed to force the wizard to
reinstall. it relies on the files that already exist.
I deleted the files from the system directory manually, some of which were
not deleteable until logging in the safe mode. Unfortunately, when I did
that, the add/remove componetes did not even start as it was looking for on
of the files that i removed. I then copied back all the files that i
expanded but same problem.

Knowing from you how to get the expanded files was an excellent start. Now
I need to force the install wizard to actually ask for the files location as
if it was not installed before. Can you help me with that?

Normally the installation Wizard prompts for the files. If not, then the
manufacturer will have to help you because the Wizard is using the path from
which Windows XP was originally installed by the manufacturer.
