Hi Anton,
I already did this but from my OEM MCE from Windows.
I put in:
c:\windows\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons
It said it installed correctly but when I went to select it at startup it gave the same blue screen that said something
like

I must of installed some hardware wrong or something.
If this is the first time just reboot otherwise check for viruses etc.
Can't remember exact message.

Hi RScotti,

Did you converted the "C:" drive from FAT32 (or FAT) to NTFS *after*
you installed the Recovery Console?

I can boot ok and everything else is also OK.
I just did a clean install with the HP OEM recovery disks 3 1/2 hours.
This happened before also.
Can you boot into Windows normally or does this get a BSOD as well?

Hi Kerry,

What is the error on the BSOD. Post all the details please.
OK, Here's goes:
a problem has been detected & Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you seen this stop error restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these
steps.

Check for viruses in your computer.
remove any newly installed hard drives and hard drive controllers.
Check HD to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.
Run Chkdsk /F to check for hard drive corruption and than restart your computer.

It sounds like a driver is missing for the hard drive controller. Is the
hard drive a SATA drive? You may need a floppy disk with the hard drive
controller driver on it. When booting to the recovery console at a certain
point you will see a message at the bottom of the screen about pressing F6
to load drivers. Press F6, insert the floppy, and follow the directions. You
will have to do this every time you boot to the recovery console. There is a
way to load the drivers into the recovery console but it's quite complicated
involving editing the oemsetup.inf file.

Hi Kerry,
I don't have any drivers that I know of and don't have a floppy only CD/DVD.
I think I have a SATA drive. I got a SATA Intel 82801GR/GH SATA RAID CONTROLLER
There is also something under IDE Intel 82801G (1CH7 family) Ultra ATA Storage.
Please let me know what I have.

I have always had access to the MS Recovery console. I just did a clean install cause I had a new hard drive put in from
HP because of a defect. It was the same as I had before.

It always worked until I had it repaired @ HP than it failed. Sorry if I confused you.
I will contact HP but this never had a driver before. I always used this.
I am confused. In one post you say it didn't work before now you say it did.
In any case you will need to insert a driver disk for the Intel RAID
controller to boot into the recovery console.

What did HP do during the repair? They may have replaced an IDE drive with a
SATA drive or replaced the motherboard. Either of these would cause the
problem. It is possible there may be settings in the BIOS that affect this
as well. On some motherboards you can turn off RAID in the BIOS and the
controller will then act as standard IDE controller. If this is possible
then you wouldn't have to load a driver. If you change any BIOS settings
make sure you note what the original settings were. It is possible the
computer won't boot if you set something wrong.

What happened was they couldn't find anything wrong so I called them and they sent the part to me and sent a tech to put
in the new HD.It now seems that he did something else wrong cause they now thing I have a short cause my computer goes
off if I unplug the USB or Firewire while it is on. The power light still says on thought.

According to my specs I always had a 250 GB SATA drive. Is the one I have in there now?

No,
I decided to go through Compusa. I have a service plan with them. Hopefully I have better luck.

Sounds like you may have to call them again.
